about
Going Up Coming Down is probably my favorite track. It captures the essence of what I hoped to achieve in bridging new tech with old feel. The result is rather satisfying I must say. Expect more of it.
It’s like Allen Toussaint chewing gum. Or Don Covay playing Space Invaders
It’s a trippy sonic smorgasbord.
The first thing drummer, Keith Langford said to me was “not a trap beat!” I confess I don’t even know what a trap beat is. But this is a cool ass groove. All begins with that loop and the guitar riffs. Lyrically I was following the idea of a psychedelic version of Don Covay’s I Was Checking Out She Was Checking In. Instead of a hotel it’s a bad trip. On a deeper level it’s about emotional disconnection. And the challenges of incompatibility in relationships.

I can't stop listening to Maintain. First time I heard it was performed with Jeff Austin Band and it was an instant favorite. It is a really great album for zoning out. It's like floating in the ocean past the breaking point, where the waves lift you but submerge you at the same time. Marisa Muldoon

There's a similarity in song writing between Richard Thompson and Hugh Cornwell which maybe isn't surprising as they went to the same school at the same time, although Thompson is older.
Due to Thompson's association with John French of Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band I searched for his work on the Bandcamp app. French, Thompson and Cornwell all have albums on the app which I'm very pleased about. Only Thompson has released contemporary albums, much to his credit. yellowcakeuf6
